Europe Day, which takes place on 9 May each year, celebrates peace and unity in Europe. This date marks the anniversary of the historic "Schuman Declaration". During a speech in Paris in 1950, Robert Schuman, then French Minister for Foreign Affairs, explained his idea of a new form of political cooperation in Europe that would make any war between European nations. His vision was to create a European institution that would put jointly and would administer the production of coal and steel. A treaty creating such a body has was signed in the year after the speech. Schuman's proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is today the European Union.

In the particular context that we are experiencing this year with COVID-19, a united and strong Europe is more than ever necessary for every citizen.
